Specific Course Information

Not Transferable Courses

Note that the following courses are Not Transferable: Physical education, sports, fitness, weight lifting, personal wellness, health & wellness, personal finance, food & nutrition, welding, CAD, drafting, graphics, robotics, pre-engineering courses, computer operation courses such as Microsoft applications (e.g: MS Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint), SWC (Sweetland Writing Center), ELI (English Language Institute), pre-calculus MATH courses (e.g. U-M MATH 100, 103, 104, 105, 106)*, non-calculus based PHYSICS courses (e.g. U-M PHYSICS 119, 126/128, 125/127)*, non-calculus based CHEM courses (e.g. U-M 108), Independent Study, pass/fail, credit/no credit classes, and any course receiving a grade of “C-” or below. Also, internship, co-op, practicum, military work, or life experience. Specific IOE courses in the 200- and 300-level range are generally not transferable with a few occasional exceptions such as IOE 265.

*Note regarding non-calculus MATH & PHYSICS courses: Starting FT 2016, qualifying CoE students may transfer in PHYSICS 115 for 2 credits. Either MATH 105 (4cr) or MATH 110 (2cr) may also be transferred, but not both. This is particularly relevant for Cross Campus students who previously did not receive this credit. If appropriate, transfer & other CoE students may receive similar credit for qualifying transfer courses.

CoE is NOT accepting TRGENCR courses. These courses will be listed as not transferable, effective May 2024, and will affect CoE transfer students as well as CoE cross campus students.

ENGR 100-Departmental (ENGR 101x)

Recommendation to count as ENGR 101, but not as a prerequisite for EECS 280. Not recommended as ENGR 101 for EECS students. Students should consult with their academic/program advisor regarding individual degree requirements.

EECS 280 and 281

No pre-evaluation for U-M EECS 280 or EECS 281. AFTER taking the course, CURRENT students may request evaluation. The evaluation will involve an interview, test, and/or programming assignment (note that equivalence is rarely granted). Contact [email protected] for more information on that procedure.

MATH Courses

For MATH course evaluation or re-evaluation requests, requests will need to be submitted directly through the Math Department. Prospective students should also use the link provided. You will need to log in using an email, find the institution, and submit the course(s) for evaluation. For math course re-evaluations, make sure to review the Public Notes given for the course you are to submit for re-evaluation as this may contain information for course materials needed for the evaluation process. Any questions regarding the math course evaluation process can be directed to the Math Department, [email protected].

The Math Department emails the Transfer Credit Evaluation Office CoE student requests. If by chance you do not see your credits posted 2 weeks after receiving your results from the Math Department, email [email protected] for further assistance to make sure your applicable credits are posted.

BIOLOGY, EEB, or MCDB Courses

For BIOLOGY, EEB, or MCDB course evaluation or re-evaluation requests, the Transfer Credit Evaluation Office can evaluate for departmental credit only (e.g. BIOLOGY 101x or MCDB 301x) through a submitted Transfer Credit Approval Form. If you are seeking a direct course equivalency (e.g. BIOLOGY 172 or MCDB 310), students need to submit evaluation requests directly through the Biology Department, and forward our office ([email protected]) the results given from the Biology Department. Any questions regarding this course evaluation process can be directed to the Biology Department, [email protected].

CHEM or BIOLCHEM Courses

For CHEM or BIOLCHEM course evaluation or re-evaluation requests, requests will need to be submitted directly through the Chemistry Department, and forward our office ([email protected]) the results given from the Chemistry Department. The evaluation process may require the external institution’s course instructor and/or department offering the course(s) to send a detailed course syllabus containing a list of weekly topics covered, copies of exams, quizzes, and/or laboratory experiments (when applicable). If needed, remind the instructor and/or department to include your UMID & name when sending course material to the Chemistry Department. Any questions regarding this course evaluation process can be directed to the Chemistry Department, [email protected].

PHYSICS Courses

PHYSICS 140/141 & 240/241 courses are transferrable. It is highly recommended for students to refer to the Credit Policies Tab and review the Credit Policy to see how external course(s) transfer for credit to fulfill degree requirements. The CoE Transfer Credit Evaluation Office can assist students with Physics course evaluation or re-evaluation requests through a submitted Transfer Credit Approval Form. The student may also visit the Physics Department and submit a course evaluation on their own, and forward our office ([email protected]) the results given from the Physics Department. Any questions regarding this course evaluation process can be directed to the Physics Department, [email protected].
